Good Night Charlie

Charlie went to sleep. Charlie is a caterpillar, an Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillar to be specific. He lived in Mrs. McCauley's classroom. He was much loved by the 2's in her class. Every day they fed and cared for Charlie.
One day recently Charlie hunkered down and spun a chrysalis around himself. I came by to tell the children that Charlie sleeps a long time in winter and that he prefers to sleep outside!
I'm not quite sure who shocked them the most, me or the caterpillar!

We took Charlie out the back door to find a place for him to go to sleep.

We taped him under a leaf by the back door so that the children can keep an eye on him. One day Charlie will wake up and crawl out of his sleeping chamber and look like ...
This!!!!
